Halfway through - Halbzeit
Time to recap what's been happening so far. Since the main reason why I'm here is a training, I guess I should start with that (although there's so much other stuff worth starting with).
I'm really happy with what we've been doing so far. One of my main goals was to learn how to use the IWB (interactive whiteboard). Coming back to school, I really want to start using it. I mean we have it so why not take advantage of it? I gotta say I underestimated it a bit. We've been practicing a lot, but still there is so much more to learn. There are all these crazy features that can make my life as a teacher easier, but I need to know how to use them in a logical and practical way first. Gotta admit, logic is not my strong suit so it'll take me some time to master this aspect. But I'm really happy about the fact that we can start practicing here. I've already learnt how to write on the board - write as in people will actually be able to read what I wrote. It's harder than you think!
What else? Well, we got all kinds of websites that help you do really creative and interesting stuff. For example word clouds. I love these. You can do so much with them - let students analyze the words, practice past tense, write a story. It's just incredible. Opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Then there's a comic creation software, which will give me the possibility to create own comic strips instead of having to look for existing ones for a specific topic (by the way, I've rarely succeeded in finding a good and suitable one anyway). Generally, we discussed and tried out webpages that are directed at all four skills. So not only did we get a wide selection of material, but we also got time and opportunity to try them out and see which ones are good for us.
I guess I can already safely say that my expectations have been met 100%.
Yesterday and today we had trips offered to us by the school. Yesterday we went to London (which you already know because I posted pictures in the evening). Today was all about Oxford. It was quite interesting to see what the fuss was all about. I mean, everyone is talking about the rivalry and I was really curious to see for myself which city is the better one. You wanna know my conclusion? I think they're both great in their own way. I loved to go to one of the colleges in Cambridge to see one of Shakespeare's comedies the other day. In the summer time, students perform various of Shakespeare's plays in the different colleges. People meet, take all sorts of food and drink with them and go to see the plays. And you don't even realize that the actors are students because of how talented and great they are. On the other hand, you then go to Oxford and you can visit Britain's second oldest book shop - I mean, that's so cool.
There's one more week to go, but I already know that my decision to try something new in terms of training country was the right one. Even though, I still sometimes think that the British tend to be a little distanced and sometimes a bit cold, they are also a quite interesting and fun bunch. I love their pub culture. In the evenings people meet for a pint. There's so much music everywhere and it seems that everyone is so talented that they WILL become the next Beatles or Adele. I love the British humor and the awkwardness that this humor sometimes causes. All in all, I love it here.
Da ich nun die Halbzeit erreicht habe, wird es wohl Zeit, alles bisherige Revue passieren zu lassen. Ich mache hier eine Weiterbildung, also werde ich auch damit anfangen (obwohl es viele andere Dinge gibt, mit denen ich ebenfalls anfangen könnte).
Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem, was wir bisher gemacht haben. Eines meiner Hauptziele war es, die Interactive Whiteboard kennenzulernen - also eine Tafel, auf der man mit interaktivem Stift schreibt, der wiederum mit einer Software verbunden ist. Alles Geschriebene wird gespeichert und kann gedrückt, per e-mail verschickt oder anderweitig genutzt werden. Eine ganz tolle Sache. Wenn ich wiederkomme, möchte ich diese Tafel auf jeden Fall benutzen können. Wenn meine Schule schon eine hat, warum sollte ich das nicht ausnutzen? Ich denke, die Technologie kann das Leben eines Lehrers um einiges erleichtern. Vorausgesetzt natürlich, man weiß damit umzugehen. Jedenfalls hatten wir hier schon einige Veranstaltungen zu diesem Thema und konnte auch recht viel üben. Ich bin relativ sicher im Umgang mit dem Pen und auch den einzelnen Schritten, muss aber noch sehr viel lernen, was die Spezialeffekte angeht. Immerhin kann ich aber schon drauf schreiben - im Sinne von so, dass man es auch lesen kann.
Was noch? Unser Dozent hat uns eine Menge unterschiedlicher Websites vorgestellt, mit denen man teilweise sehr kreative Sachen anstellen kann. Da wäre zum Beispiel die word cloud Webseite, mit der ich das Bild oben kreiert habe. Man kann so etwas wirklich total vielseitig im Sprachenunterricht einsetzen - zum Üben von Wortschatz, als Grammatikübung der unregelmäßigen Verben oder auch als Schreibaufgabe. Dann konnten wir noch einige Cartoonseiten kennenlernen. Zum Beispiel habe ich gelernt, wie man einen eigenen Comic macht - auch eine super Sache. Jetzt kann ich aufhören, das Internet auf der Suche nach passenden Comics zu durchforsten. Im Allgemeinen haben wir uns Webseiten zu allen vier Fertigkeiten angeschaut. Somit haben wir nicht nur eine sehr breite Auswahl, sondern konnten uns auch schon im Detail vieles anschauen und auch ausprobieren.
Ich denke, ich kann bereits sagen, dass diese Weiterbildung 100 prozentig erfolgreich ist/werden wird.
Gestern und heute wurden unterschiedliche Ausflüge angeboten. Gestern waren wir in London (was ihr bestimmt wisst, weil ich abends Bilder gepostet habe). Heute ging es nach Oxford. Für mich war besonders interessant, was denn nun tatsächlich dran ist an der Rivalität zwischen Cambridge und Oxford. Welche Stadt ist denn nun besser? Meine Antwort, ganz klar: beide Städte sind auf ihre Art und Weise besonders und toll. Ich finde es großartig, dass es in Cambridge im Sommer so etwas wie das Shakespeare Festival gibt, bei dem Studenten Stücke im Freien aufführen. Die Theaterstücke finden an unterschiedlichen Tagen in unterschiedlichen Colleges statt. Menschen treffen sich, packen Essen und Trinken ein und gehen gemütlich dahin, um ein bisschen hohe Kultur zu genießen. Es ist einfach nur fantastisch, vor allem, weil man absolut nicht das Gefühl hat, da würden Studenten eine Aufführung machen. In Oxford, auf der anderen Seite, gibt es die zweitälteste Buchhandlung Englands - auch nicht gerade langweilig.
Also: die erste Woche ist vorüber und ich kann sagen, dass ich sehr zufrieden bin mit meiner Entscheidung, mal in ein anderes Land zur Weiterbildung gefahren zu sein. Ich finde zwar nach wie vor, dass die Briten manchmal etwas distanziert und kalt wirken, aber sie sind auch sehr interessant und witzig. Ich finde ihre Barkultur super: man trifft sich abends nach der Arbeit und geht noch gemeinsam in den Pub. Oder ihre Musik. An jeder Ecke trifft man auf einen Musiker und einer ist besser als der andere, alle sehr talentiert. Man denkt einfach, man würde gerade vor den nächsten Beatles oder der nächsten Adele stehen. Ich liebe den britischen Humor, auch wenn er etwas dunkel und manchmal merkwürdig ist. Im Großen und Ganzen: ich liebe es hier.
