Final two days - Letze zwei Tage

We started by watching some informative videos and exploring materials that explained the concepts: what they are, how they work, and how they came to be. With that bit of background knowledge under our belts, we jumped into trying things out ourselves.
Below you can see a few photos I took while experimenting with augmented reality.

Virtual reality was a bit trickier to explore—not because it's difficult in general, but more because of how I might use it in my context. It was fun to put on the VR goggles and suddenly find myself floating in space or swimming with fish in the ocean, but I’m not quite sure how I’d bring that into a German or English class—at least not without a compelling purpose. I’d need to come up with a clear, catchy objective. What exactly would students be learning or practicing by using this method?

Anyway, it was a lot—again. So much input, loads of different websites and tools to explore, and so many apps to try out. By the end of the second session, my brain felt completely fried. I’ll definitely need to go over everything again once I’m back in Germany. For now, I just need to let it all sink in a bit and give my mind some time to digest it all.

On the social side: Yesterday I visited Birgu—a quaint little town with winding, narrow streets and beautiful old buildings. Photos below.

On the last day we tried some more tools concerning gamification and presentation creation. After that we had some time to work on our project and then present it. I was a bit relieved when we were done because as I've said multiple times already - it was just so so much input.

Gestern stand etwas ganz Neues auf dem Programm: Augmented und Virtual Reality.
Wir haben uns zuerst ein paar Videos angeschaut und Material durchgearbeitet, um erstmal zu verstehen, worum’s eigentlich geht – was das alles ist, wie es funktioniert und wie es entstanden ist. Mit diesem kleinen Wissenspaket sind wir dann direkt ins Ausprobieren gestartet.
Oben sind ein paar Fotos, die ich beim Herumspielen mit Augmented Reality gemacht habe.

Virtual Reality war ein bisschen kniffliger – nicht grundsätzlich, aber für meine Zwecke. Klar, es war super spannend, die Brille aufzusetzen und plötzlich durchs Weltall zu schweben oder im Ozean abzutauchen. Aber ob meine Sprachschüler:innen das im Deutsch- oder Englischunterricht machen wollen? Hm, vielleicht nur, wenn ich ein richtig gutes Ziel dafür finde. Also was sie dabei konkret lernen oder üben könnten. Sonst bleibt’s halt bei „ganz nett“.

Jedenfalls: Es war wieder viel. Viel Input, viele Webseiten, viele verschiedene Tools und Apps. Nach der zweiten Session war mein Kopf echt voll. Ich werde mir das alles nochmal in Ruhe anschauen, wenn ich zurück in Deutschland bin. Jetzt muss das Ganze erstmal sacken und verarbeitet werden.

Und ein bisschen Social Life gab’s auch: Ich war gestern in Birgu – ein richtig hübsches Städtchen mit engen, geschwungenen Gassen und wunderschönen alten Häusern. Fotos gibt’s oben. 

Am letzten Tag haben wir uns etwas zu Spielen angeschaut und konnten auch hier wieder probieren. Zum Schluss mussten wir ein kleines Projekt kreieren und vorstellen. Ich muss zugeben, am Ende war ich echt erleichtert, dass die Weiterbildung vorbei ist, weil es - wie schon oft erwähnt - so wahnsinnig viel Input war.
