A piece of British culture - Ein bisschen englischer Kultur

Wow, so much stuff to tell and it's only the third day. I'm completely blown away, to be honest.

Yesterday we had only two blocks with our course tutor. We talked about blogs. Although I am writing one, I can't really say that I'm that experienced. So it was good for me as well to see what's out there and hear other people's opinions. We mostly looked at professional blogs which is quite different from what I'm doing. At some point I might consider trying out something in this direction, but not right now, I guess.

In the afternoon we had a workshop and a cultural talk. For the workshop I chose the topic 'differentiation' because it happens very often that I run out of ideas for tasks to match the needs of all students in class. The session was great. The trainer, Anna, was super nice and competent. She gave us a lot of input, and, above all, ideas we can start using immediately. We did a little bit of theory: which kinds of differentiation are there, which methods are there. And we tried out different things. Very helpful and interesting.

After the workshop there was a range of cultural talks to choose from. There was music, film, pets, food, and many more. I decided to give British music a go because, well, its reputation actually speaks for itself. And again, I was not to be disappointed at all. Time went by so quickly, it didn't even feel like a lesson. We talked about trends and developments in British music, listened to some artists that are 'hot' right now, and even made predictions about the near future in the music industry.

To be honest, I was sure the day would be very exhausting and hard. After all, we were meant to have class until 5. But due to the mixture and the change of trainer, topic and group the time really just flew by. I didn't realize how important this variation was until yesterday. It's similar to working in different groups. It's always hard to change the group because we tend to be creatures of habit. Once we've found people we feel comfy with, we don't want to give that up. But changing the group also means that you are given the possibility to change your point of view. You can learn about other opinions, other perspectives. A great thing actually. Now I know that mixing up the sessions is also a great idea.

After class we went downtown to have a guided tour of Cambridge - once again leaving me highly impressed. And the best part: I ended up in a pub with a small group of great people from all over the world listening to live jazz music. Do I even have to elaborate on that? No words would actually describe the evening. A lot of laughing, talking, sharing ideas and stories, simply a lot of fun.

Today, class was about using the IWB - interactive whiteboard. That was basically the whole reason why I chose this course in the first place. We got to know a little bit of theory and, what was the best part, got to practice. We had to do a little presentation and show it to the whole group. I have to say I loooooooove it. 100 percent sure that it will make my life easier in the future. Well given that I master it. But the possibilities it offers... Incredible!

That was basically it. Now I bet you're curious about some photo material. Alright alright, here you go.
