The first step is always the hardest

In my case, I should rather say 'the first steps are the hardest'. Before I start I feel the need to ask everyone who - by accident or on purpose - found her or his way on this blog, to bear with me. I've never ever created a blog or even thought about writing one before. But, there's a first time for everything, right?! So here goes nothing..

Prologue

Um no I'm not going to write a novel here, but as a literature student/smartypants I like fancy words and I feel inclined to use this very first post to tell you the background of this whole endeavor. As you may have seen on my profile page - if not, go have a look, I've tried my best to appear interesting and unique - I work as a freelance teacher for languages. Due to this and also because I'm a very curious and inquisitive person who loves traveling, I'm going to Malta for a teacher training. I guess the language teacher part implies that you have to constantly stay in close touch with the languages you're teaching and preferably also the cultures connected to these languages. I've chosen Malta because I currently teach a lot of English. Aaaaaaand okay, I admit, because Germany in October is not very - let's call it - 'cozy', whereas Malta … well you know, I'm a summer person.

So, to make a long story short, this blog's purpose is to share my experiences with you. It's not going to be a regular travel blog - although what do I know, I'm a blogging-rookie - but more of a diary I'm sharing with the world. Of course, I'm going to include as many interesting and helpful information about Malta and the region where I'm staying as possible. But there are also other aspects I want to shed light upon, such as the whole learning experience, the people I'll meet, the family I'm going to live with and the day-to-day struggles I may or may not encounter. To be really honest, I'm kinda hoping that my journey will turn out to be more than just language and methodology training. Isn't it a well-known fact that on each and every trip we take to a different culture or country or part of the world, we get to know a little bit more about our own culture and country and, ultimately, our own self? I guess, apart from refreshing my methodology and language knowledge, this is my goal: getting to know myself a little better. And it would be great if you came along.
